WTT 2024 Macau Championship Day 6: Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi Set for Women's Singles Final, Lin Shidong to Face Qiu Dang in Men's Singles Final

On the evening of September 14th, the 2024 WTT Macau Championship concluded its 6th day of competition. In the women's singles semifinals, Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi advanced to the final, while Lin Shidong defeated Wang Chuqin to set up a final clash with German player Qiu Dang.

The 2024 WTT Macau Championship took place from September 9th to 15th in Macau, featuring 4 semifinal matches on the sixth day, including 5 Chinese national team players.

In the first women's singles semifinal, Wang Yidi defeated her teammate Wang Manyu in straight sets with a total match time of 29 minutes and 2 seconds, winning 4-0 (11-7/11-6/11-8/11-4) to secure a spot in the final.

In the match, Wang Yidi took an early lead in the first set, pulling away from a 4-4 tie with three consecutive points. In the second set, Wang Manyu initially held a lead, but Wang Yidi turned the tide with a 5-point streak after a 6-6 tie. Wang Yidi once again took a 3-point lead after an 8-8 tie in the third set and closed out the match with an 11-4 victory in the fourth set.

In the second women's singles semifinal, Sun Yingsha defeated Japanese player Miu Hirano in 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds, winning 4-2 (12-10/14-12/9-11/11-13/11-3/11-8) to advance to the final, where she will face Wang Yidi. This victory marked Sun Yingsha's 6th consecutive win against Miu Hirano.

In the match, the first set saw a close battle with 5 ties at 1-1, 3-3, 6-6, 7-7, and 10-10. Sun Yingsha rallied from a 7-10 deficit to win the set with a 5-0 run. In the second set, Sun Yingsha took an early 3-0 lead and maintained her advantage throughout. Miu Hirano caught up at 6-6 and 7-7, surpassing Sun Yingsha with a 10-8 lead. However, Sun Yingsha fought back, saving three set points and missing one before winning 14-12. Miu Hirano secured the third set with a 5-4 comeback after trailing 4-5. The fourth set was closely contested as well, with ties at 1-1, 2-2, 4-4, and 8-8. Sun Yingsha took a 10-8 lead, but Miu Hirano turned the tables with three consecutive points to win 13-11, leveling the score at 2-2. In the fifth set, Sun Yingsha took a commanding 5-0 lead and extended it to 8-2 and then 11-3 to secure another set victory. In the sixth set, Sun Yingsha started with a 4-0 lead, but Miu Hirano caught up to 8-8. In a crucial moment, Sun Yingsha responded with a 3-point streak to seal the win.

In the men's singles semifinals, Lin Shidong defeated Wang Chuqin in 34 minutes and 51 seconds, winning 4-1 (11-7/11-6/7-11/11-6/11-9) to secure a spot in the final. He will be facing German player Qiu Dang for the championship.

In the first set, the two players battled to a 3-3 tie. Wang Chuqin took a 2-3 lead with a 4-point streak, but Lin Shidong responded with a decisive 7-0 run to secure the set. In the second set, the two players fought to a 4-4 tie before Lin Shidong pulled away with a 2-point streak and a 4-0 run from a 7-6 lead. In the third set, the lead exchanged multiple times, reaching ties at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and 6-6. Wang Chuqin came from behind with a 5-0 run after trailing 4-6 and added two more points to win the set. In the fourth set, Lin Shidong turned the tide with a 5-0 run after a 3-4 deficit and maintained his lead until the end. In the fifth set, Lin Shidong took a 3-1 lead after a 1-1 and 2-2 tie. Wang Chuqin fought back with a 4-0 run after trailing 5-7. However, Lin Shidong responded with a 4-0 run of his own to win the set 11-9.
